The LaPointe Property is comprised of approximately 1,896 acres of scattered forest land located in Bayfield, Iron and Vilas counties in Northern Wisconsin. The Forestland Group (TFG) purchased the property from Steiger Lumber Company in September of 2015. Prior to TFG ownership, the LaPointe property had been routinely managed to provide a variety of forest products and it appears previous managers employed traditionally accepted silvicultural practices employed in the region.

The LaPointe property was formerly owned by Steiger Lumber Company. Steiger Lumber Company is a longtime sawmill family located near Bessemer, Michigan. They have operated for 60 plus years in Ironwood/Bessermer area managing hardwood timberlands for lumber. Their ownership was spread across the Western UP and Northeastern Wisconsin.
There are four major forest types found on the LaPointe property commonly found in the region. Upland Mixed, which is a variety of hardwood species mixed with mature pine is found on approximately 64% of the ownership. Aspen stands make up 16%, swamp conifer 9% and swamp or non-productive areas represents 11% of the ownership.
Approximately 75% of the LaPointe property is enrolled in the Managed Forest Law or Forest Crop Law. As such, these lands are open to public for hunting and fishing, lands enrolled in MFL are also open for cross-country skiing, hiking and sight-seeing. ATVs, ORVs and “Side-by-Sides” are prohibited from use at any time. Snowmobiles may be used on designated snowmobile trails during the open season. Licensed highway vehicles (cars and trucks) are not permitted beyond closed gates, berms or roads posted closed. Hunting blinds on LaPointe are to be portable in nature and removed daily. Tree stands and steps must be strap on and may not penetrate the trees bark.
