Chepo River

Chepo River consists of 704.05 hectares (1,739 acres) of land situated in the central eastern area of the Panama Province, Panama. The property consists of fifteen (15) separate parcels with approximately 623 hectares (1,539 acres) of forested land with teak tree plantations, 33 hectares (82 acres) of secondary forests, 30 hectares (74 acres) in pastures, 11 hectares (27 acres) of gallery forests, and 7 hectares (17 acres) of access roads.

Chepo River was previously owned by FGF since 1994. It was primarily developed as forest land (teak tree plantations), which were planted over several years since the mid 1990’s.

Activities performed as part of teak plantation operations include: land preparation involving clearing and fumigation, planting and fertilization (1st and 2nd years); additional fumigation during the 3rd year if any grasses have grown in the plantations; and from the 4th year forward activities were performed according to the seasons, which included plantation clearing (October through December), fire break maintenance along the boundaries (January) and tree handling such as pruning and de-suckering (February through April).

Location

The plantation is divided by the Pan-American Highway and the Bayano River. The Bayano Lake and the AES Hydroelectric Dam located approximately 4.2 km (2.6 mi.) to the east, and the city of Chepo is approximately 14.8 km (9.2 mi.) to the west. Access to the parcels of land pertaining to the subject property is via several unnamed roads, extending north and south from the Pan-American Highway.
