Caribbean Timberlands

The property is comprised of five tracts totaling 8,691 acres, located in central east Costa Rica’s Cartago and Limón provinces.  This area is characterized by hilly terrain and mountains, with elevation rising toward the south.

Three of the tracts, Suerre, Huacas and Fortuna, are clustered relatively close together in the foothills about 50 kilometers west of Limón. They are located along the northern edge of the central mountain range, at mid to lower elevations, not far south of the coastal plain.
The fourth and fifth tracts, Trebol and Aurora, are contiguous and lie along the northern edge of the mountains, but are located farther east, about ten kilometers south of Limón, in a low river valley location in or very close to the coastal plain.

The soils in the mountainous part of Costa Rica are ultisols, typically red to orange or brown and containing no calcareous material, with high clay content.  In the coastal plain, soils are predominantly inceptisols, gray to brown clay and silt loams that are not particularly fertile, but can be productive when property managed. They are important agricultural soils in this region, used for growing pineapples, bananas, pasture and other crops.
